2008 Chevrolet silverado 4.3 L Service Engine Light on, checked with ONSTAR Diagnostic and mention emission problem. What are possible causes for it to check under the hood.

The CK ENG LT or the Service engine Soon light are emission indicator that store a diagnostic trouble code or DTC. The purpose of the CK ENG LT program is to protect the enviroment and this is why all vehicles produced have a catalytic convertor,  The CK ENG LT protects the catalytic and the catalytic protects the enviroment from harmful emission produced by vehicles. When the CK ENG LT or Service Engine Soon illuminates the vehicles is in a emission violation, which means you are using more fuel than the vehicles has intended. You would need a scan tool to have the DTC read.
