Hello,

My check engine light come on intermittently. I had the code checked, and it is: heated oxygen sensor (bank 1 sensor 2) circuit high voltage. Vehicle is 2002 Chrysler Concorde. Code is p0138. Because the check engine light is not on ALL THE TIME, does this need to be repaired? Is this a critical issue?

I am a single disabled woman who does not want to spend money unnecessarily. I took it to a repair shop after having the code checked. The charge for the diagnostic is $90. Please advise.

Thank you,
Katie Boss

P0138 - 02 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 voltage high

Most places check engine light for free, P0138 is for sensor 2 which is a catalytic monitor sensor or the downstream sensor. The purpose of the CK ENG Lt is to protect the catalytic convertor and catalytic is to protect the enviorment. When the CK ENG LT comes on it informs that you are exceeding emission limits, P0138 will not produce any drivability at all. being circuit high this mean either it is disconnected either from the sensor itself or the harness connection to that sensor. What will force you into making a correction will be a inspection in order to register the vehilce. The CK ENG LT will prevent you from registering the vehicle if a inspection is required for registration  . This is part of the clean air program. So all this is between you and how you feel toward the enviroment.
