From years (sometimes), "check - engine" light apears for the P0400 code, but the engine is always working OK! Recently, I dismantled + clean-up with outmost care + reinstalled the EGR valve. Check light is OFF, but may be back ON ...next week.
Can you e-mail me some details regarding other repairs that may be needed?
Regards,
Calin

you may have to replace the EGR valve, did you clean the egr tubing? if not you will also have to do that

you can squeeze the egr valve (rubber part from the buttom) and the car should try off, if it does you the tubing might be clogged or if the egr valve does not move then you will have to replace it
