Can I buy a used PCM from salvage yard and install it in my car?

Bought PCM from salvage yard, but am hesitant to install in my car. Friend of mine who is a Ford mechanic, stated that it more that likely is not the problem. Suggested I replace spark plugs. I did this and sputtering is still occurring.

Vehicle: 2002 Ford Taurus 300 6 cylinder over head valve non flex fuel
