What causes steady flashing of OD off light?

1999 ford ranger od/off light flashing regular after going into overdrive lock up.it matters not whether the switch is in the off or on . what is crazy is that you drive it for 5 minutes before the light starts flashing.

is the transmission slipping? 

 

when was the last time the transmission fluid was replaced. it suppose to be replaced every 30k miles I would drain and refill the fluid, if that does not help the torque converter clutch might be bad if there is no wiring issue.

 

Possible causes

- Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve

- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness is open or shorted

- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection

- Low transmission fluid level

- Dirty transmission fluid
