When the OBD 2 scan tool is attached to the OBD 2 socket then the car can run, this means that your ECM has a improper ground, Use this TSB that Oldsmobile has produced for this situation TSB # 02-08-45-002A , Subject is a intermittent stall, SES light illuminated, loose ground.

1. Locate ground G103 using the illustration above. The forward transmission stud is the ground location (lower left illustration) on four cylinder engines. The rear transmission stud is the ground location (upper left illustration) on six cylinder engines.

2. In order to gain access to G103:

^ On four cylinder engines, remove the duct from the air cleaner assembly to the air intake resonator.

^ On six cylinder engines, remove the air cleaner assembly.

3. Remove the ground eyelet retaining nut.

4. Remove the ground eyelet from the stud.

5. Install a flat washer, P/N 15650963, on the stud and then reinstall the ground eyelet onto the stud.

6. Reinstall the ground eyelet retaining nut and tighten securely.

7. On four cylinder engines, reinstall the duct from the air cleaner assembly to the air intake resonator.

8. On six cylinder engines, reinstall the air cleaner assembly.
