Chevy Truck-Code P-1406. EGR valve. How long till 'Code reset'?

1997 Chevy Pick-up. v-8. 'Service Engine soon' light on. Took the EGR valve off, cleaned it. appears to work fine. Reinstalled. Engine code light still on. How long do I have to run it until the ECM clears the light?

Vehicle: 1997, Chevrolet, 1500, V-8 (350)

I'm not sure if it will reset itself due to the age of the car some newer cars will reset it. Just disconnect the battery for 30min or so
