The SES light lit up on my 2005 Nissan Sentra. I checked the code and it was P1446 which means that the evap vent ccontrol valve is in the closed position. Is it necessary to replace the part? Does it harm other exhaust related components if I don't?

After some reading, I found out that its only a diagnostic tool that the ECM uses to check for emissions etc. So I'm just wondering if I really have to get it replaced. Any information will help. Thanks!

More than likely the problem it is the EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve. A bad valve should not affect the performance of your Sentra or harm any other component, but it will not pass the smog inspection.
