Running rich condition will deteriate the catalytic convertor very soon. ,when there is a running rich condition mechanical condition needs to be ruled out, such as low compression. Rupture Fuel pressure regulator seeping fuel into the intake can cause this . so can a plugged air filter. A faulty MAF can give false reading causing this to run rich provided that mechanical conditions have been ruled out.
