My car engine check sign is on and it says neutral start

Question

I have check engine sign on in my Toyota Corolla 2002 model Car. Recently Starter relay was changed and its connection with battery is direct now. Mechanic sayd the engine sign is on due to this and code says the car is started in neutral position.

Any soluction to this?

why is the starter relay "connected with battery directly" ?
