What does the code PO455 mean on a 2008 Jeep Compass and how do I fix it ?

This code is for the evap system large leak detected. The evap system is what keeps the fuel vapors from leaking into the atmosphere. This code means there is a leak in the system. This first place to start with this is the gas cap. If it's loose then this code can be set. If the gas cap is not loose then some other part of the system has failed. Normally this is the leak detection pump on these, but a smoke test should be done to try and locate the source of the leak.
