can I clean the ERG value to solve the problem?

I am getting the engine light lit. The code display P0404. The ERG value is suspected. The auto store person told me they might could be cleaned using brake cleaner. Is this true, or do I need to replace the ERG value? It the problem is corrected, will the light go out or does it have to be reset again?

Yes you can clean the EGR valve and piping, you may need more than brake cleaner like to screw driver to scrap the dirt out than wire brushing and wd-40 to clean it all up than use brake cleaner.

you can reset the light be disconnecting the battery for 30 min or so
