I got a 2005 Toyota Wish with the engine code P0141, what is the function of the HO2S? What does it monitor or sense?

If it is faulty, what information is missing? Any safety implications? Is it ok to leave the faulty sensor as it is?

The function of the sensor is to read the amount of O2 in the exhaust. It sends the info back to the computer so the computer can adjust the fuel mixture.

You can safely drive the car with this problem and with the code stored in the system. You may see a change in performance and fuel economy if you leave it as is.
