P0445 passat 98

Question

I have a passat 98 had p0445 and i replace the breather cranktube clear code with OBDII and engine light came back on in about a week. I dont know what else to do.

HI there,

This code is for the purge control valve. This is part of the evap emissions system on the car. The purge valve opens at specified times and engine rpms to pull the fuel vapors out of the charcoal canister. The code basically states it's shorted. It is possible the purge valve itself is the problem, however this could be a wiring issue as well.
