is there any possibility that this code could be cause by a slipping alternator belt? i've tried replacing the maf, which didn't help and the connection is good. the maf is causing a rough idle and when it idles rough the lights dim also. the alternator belt was slipping in the rain the day the code first came up, so could this be the problem?

It's very unlikely that the slipping belt will cause the code. When the engine start running rough, the engine RPM is low and the alternator does not charge the way it should charge, thus the light will dim. Unfortunately there are many things that could cause the running rough, The MAF can cause that problem.
