P0402 Mazda - miata 1999

Question

I have a 1999 mazda Miata and the check engine light comes on when it idles to warm up. I had the code checked and it shows po402 misfire on cylinder 4. when I looked the code up it tells to to clean the egr valve and port. Where is this located and is this my problem. I have replaced timing belt, and about everything else. \

P0402 is not a misfire. try to use a different OBD-II reader that one might not be compatible with your car.

if you still have a P0402 you should clean the EGR and its piping as a first step, they usually get clogged with carbon buildup
