My car had a check engine light come on. I took it to the Auto Part and was told it was error code P1031and P1148. A week later my car got really hot and the temperature reach the H but a very short time because I turned off the engine and towed the car. I then after it got cool , I put water in the radiator and took it to the auto part and it gave the following error codes P1031 P1148 and now now P1217. Will that sensor make the car overheat? Also, where is that sensor located at? Do you have a picture of it? The car I used it today and travel 50 miles in the AM with no traffic and it did not get hot, however coming in the afternoon with traffic it got hot again 35 miles into the trip. Please let me know if it is a thermostat issue or what could it possibly be cause the issue. By the way the engine is not blown or the valves where damage since it was less than 2 minutes that I shut it off after it got hot. This is my moms car and would like to avoid her from having to pay the dealer. Thanks in advance.
P1031 and P1148 are for oxygen ratio sensors. they wont cause the car to overheat.
the codes are for bank 1 sensor 1 just replace the sensor.
P1217 means the car overheated. You will have to check the cooling systems. replace the thermostat with a factory one. Its a common problem. also check to see if the fans are turning on. hopefully you it did not damge the head gasket
- Thermostat - Cooling fan harness is open or shorted - Cooling fan circuit poor electrical connection - Faulty cooling fan motor - Engine Control Module (ECM) Program - Faulty IPDM E/R - Faulty Cooling fan control module - Radiator hose - Radiator - Radiator cap - Water pump
