Problem fixed for 3 weeks. Tech replaced the "Computer" this time - and less than 4 miles later - original problem recurred. Had to take to dealer for diagnostics. Dealer re-installed original computer & codes now show: Solenoid pak and trans I/O sensors. No codes relating to malfunction of the "Computer".

The existence of DTC P1790 indicates mechanical or hydraulic (not electrical) related problems. It should be noted, however, that all mechanical problems don't necessarily result in DTC P1790. When this DTC exists, diagnosing the system should be based on the associated DTC and only mechanical causes should be considered.
