which is the true problem with my truck?

when this problem occurred it was very sudden, my check engine light has been on for as long as I had the truck but when the transmission started to lose power it started to flicker then went out and hasn't came on since. the only gears I have is 1st 2nd 3rd and drive but the only ones available are 2nd and 3rd. I have went to a few people and several websites and most say it could be my after market air filter and stereo system. or it could just be as simple as replacing the solenoid. does anyone know what the true problem is? I'm going to replace the solenoid anyway.

This can be more than just the solenoid, it is common for the valve body to plug up in its bore which causes a second or third gear start. There is a TSB on P0756 , Bulletin 01-07-30-03H6H.If going to replace the solenoid clean out its bore also, use a brake cleaner.
