Honda Civic Hybrid P1562 Code question

Question

My 2004 Civic is throwing a P1562 IMA Code. I've been told it's the IMA module, but I would like to verify this in some way before I replace the part. The question is how can I physically verify the module is bad?

The IMA light comes on periodically and I lose assist. I also get the red battery light when the idle drops below 1400 RPM. The 12 VDC battery is new - just bought it two days ago.
