Code p0193, can a bad gas cap cause this code?

My 2004 Merc Sable just registered code p0193. I know this is a fuel rail pressure senor related problem. I just want to eliminate any possible simple fixes before I take this car to a mechanic. I did a tune-up a year ago at 95,00 miles and the car starts and runs great. Can a faulty gas cap or fuel filter cause this code?

P0193 Fuel rail pressure sensor

No, a fualty gas cap will cause a EVAP. code such as a P04XX.  The fuel rail pressure sensor gives voltage to the fuel pump as load demands, This strategy helps prolong the life of the fuel pump,and does away with a fuel pressure regulator. A failing fuel rail presssure sensor will cause the engine to stall under load.
