The engine cooling system either is low on coolant which can mean there is a leak somewhere, the thermostat is either staying open or not closing, the coolant temperature sensor maybe bad or there is a water pump issue.

Possible causes:

- Low engine coolant level
- Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
- Faulty engine coolant thermostat
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness is open or shorted
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Water pump issue
