Error codes read P0340 as a Camshaft Position Sensor or Crankshaft Position Sensor

Question

I have a 1998 BMW 318i 1.9L 4 dr sedan. My Error code reads P0340. I keep getting mixed signals as to which Position Senors is the issue. Some say it is the CAMSHAFT and others say CRANKSHAFT. Can you clarify which it is?
