p1600 code for 1997 mitsubishi what does this mean and how do one solves the problem

my 1997 mitsubishi montero moves very sluggishly and consumes a lot of fuel . i tried to scan the vehicle and gave me code p1600 . how do i locate where the problem is and how to get it solved

P1600 Serial communication link malfunction

This is a communication failure with the ECM (engine control module) to the TCM (transmission control modue). To solve this you will need to determine if the ECM is at fault or the TCM is at fault. This can also be from a open connection to the ECM and TCM.  The first way to solve this problem is inspect the hasness connection of the ECM, and the harness connection to the TCM, and visually inspect for proper connection
