The check Engine light came on today on my 2006 Camry 3.0L. I took it to an auto part store. Using a electronic module, they were able to connect to the onboard ECM and received the following message, "evaporative emission system leak detected (small leak)".

I checked my fuel tank cap; and it was on and tight. So that should not be the reason for the check engine light. What should I do next? Take it to a dealer/repair shop?

Anything I can do to troubleshoot (something easy please) :-)

Thanks

P0442 Evaporative system small leak detected

If this code is by itself,it just that , the gas cap. If there was P0442,P0455,P0456, This would be a disconnected evap system hose, You can do a visual check ,at the air filter housing there is a purge line that tends to get disconnected when the airfilter is replace or inspected, make sure that properly secured.Fuel cap do wear out, do to their open and closing,a replacement may be necessary.
