2005 nissan xterra (145000 mi) with P1730 and P430 codes and no change in operating performance. If solenoid failed or shorted, I should experience problems when shifting gears correct? If so, should I start by t/s the sensor? or other?

Vehicle: 2005, nissan, xterra SE, 4.0L-V6

The P1730 code is related to the low cost brake solenoid valve, a fualty valve should cause a shifting problem, but if the problem is intemitten you may not expericence any problems. Sitcking solenoids may be cuase by dirty transmission fluid. You could start by inspecting the fluid level and condition, change fluid if neccessary. If the problem persist you may have to replaced the transmission valve body.

The P0430 means that you have a problem with the catalytic converter, which is not related to the P1730 code.
