I know the code is for a faulty ASCD switch, but could this cause steering issues also?

The ASCD switch is for cruise control.

you can start by checking the grounds (see picture below) you can remove the bolt sand it with sand paper and put the bolts back

and clear the code if the code comes back the ASCD switch might be bad.
