2005 Ford E450 6.8L with code P0720 and no power in reverse and seems to be slipping in reverse gear

Hi there,

The output shaft speed sensor is mounted to the rear of the transmission. You may have this code because of an internal problem with the transmission and not the sensor itself. This doesn't normally cause the gears to be completely eliminated, but causes hesitation when shifting and some slipping.

What the ECM does is look for open, short, grounds and rationality, P0720 will result in a harsh shift or abnormal shift, if this is the sensor, P0720 more than likely appears due to an internal mechanical transmission problem.
