I have an appointment with a German mechanic to hopefully repair my P0445 problem (I am stationed in Germany) in about a week. Can I consider the car safe to drive (no damage to the vehicle or any chance of "blowing up" while driving)?

Thanks you in advance for your quick respose.

HI there,

This code is for a problem with the purge solenoid. It's stuck open from the sounds of it and will allow the fuel vapors to go into the intake manifold and cause the starting issues. This hasn't got anything to do with the fuel tank on the vehicle, it's strictly emissions. You should check the solenoid to see if it's stuck open or if there is a constant short to it causing it to stay open.

It is safe to drive until repaired but might give you some trouble starting after filling it with gas
