I'm having the same issue. It's the fuel level sensor inside the gas tank. The part cost $260 I believe. Gas tank has to be dropped. Look up the part. I'm in disgust bc I researched this. Spoke to mechanics. This has nothing to do w the check engine light. But they built it so it sets off engine light. Also my fuel tank light blinks. Even when it's a full tank after a few start ups. I set my mileage every time for fuel ups. Bc I get 300 miles per tank. But fill up when it hits 200-250 miles. It's a very expensive plastic piece for sure. Not an easy job dropping the gas tank yourself unless you're a mechanic and have the tools to do it yourself. Lots if research on this one esp when I need to pass emissions. It suxs.

In my 2005 Xterra the gas gage reads correctly and I am not aware of any other problems.    It is ok or safe to ignore the "check engine light" that is on?  Will I be able to pass the emissions test with this glowing light??
