Hi,

I have a VW Golf 2.0 Tdi 2004 04 Reg, currently on approx. 116,000 mileage, I have a gearbox issue where your driving along, the car disengages the gears and goes into neutral mode and the display on the dashboard where you can see what gear you are in starts to flash but the car won't go anywhere, I had this diagnosed at the garage and this come back as a reading of error code P0771 shift solenoid, can you help with what the cure to this may be and if you are able to replace the solenoid, is it straight forward and where is it located, can it be done on the outside of the gearbox?

Kindest regards

Ali

have you replaced the transmission fluid? if not you can start by doing that

if that does not help the shift solenoids will be to be replaced or repaired by a transmission speacialist.

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty shift solenoid 'E' valve
- Shift solenoid 'E' valve harness is open or shorted
- Shift solenoid 'E' valve circuit poor electrical connection
