My sons car. Check engine light on. Dealership said intake manifold needed replaced. Son moved to OK, no obvious problems with the car. Check engine light still on. Recent "sluggishness" and loss of Mpg's. Took to auto zone, code P1004. What is my next step? Single mom and cant afford dealership prices. I've read a couple different possible problems: Short Runner Valve Performance or ECU battery feed and Power grounds. Suggestions on what I should do next. Thank you, Lexie

P1004 Short runner valve control performance

Check to see if there is a warranty , there should be a reflash of the ECM (engine control module) TSB #18-003-07A,

No warranty. What will the reflash do?

No the reflash will not work, If this is the only code that appear go ahead and have the short valve runner assembly replaced, As for the whole intake manifold You do not have to go that far, they must have their own reason for this.

Confused as to why you said reflash and then said it won't work. I'm guessing they want to replace whole thing because of money.

The reflash works by having the vehicle with no other symptoms, P1004 will just  be a memory code with no drivabilty noticed. You have to have P1004 short runner satisfied, codes cleared, no drivabilty, this code will reappear. Then you reflash. This is Dodge mistake, Try to get this on warranty you will need the modification label, No one else has this label.
