My 1990 Cadillac brougham has pinging/knocking when accelerating.

Question

Garage said Throttle control voltage is to high and is replacing throttle control unit. Don't see anywhere where symptoms include pinging/knocking when accelerating. Vehicle has been doing this for about two months now. Cost a lot and do not want to have the same problem after replacement. All assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Engine pinging are more than likely caused by advanced engine timing, Without the throttle or TPS (throttle position sensor) working the engine will stall when cold and hesitate, Replace the TPS the fuel management result will be better and making the necessary adjust ment will be possible

You hit the nail right on the head!!!  Replaced the Throttle Position Sensor and goodbye Pinging....Also, goodbye "check engine light" that has been lit for 3 years and where I normally smell a burning odor from the a/c after driving it for 10 miles or so, had no burning smell after 20 miles!! Coincidence?  Don't know, but sure hope the A/C continues to work without my having to turn it off due to the burning smell.  Kind of hard when outside temp indices are over 100 degrees.  Thanks you kindly for your absolutely correct answer.
