My Sons Dodge Ram pickup truck is displaying a check engine light on the dash. I ran an OBD scanner on it and code p1398 misfire detected was displayed. This is the only code showing and My question is will replacing the timing chain fix this problem? My Son says all he needs to get done is the chip to be reflashed. I think this will not fix the problem. Any information will be great.

Vehicle: 1997, dodge, ram, 5.9 V8

P1389 Misfire adaptive numerator at limit

The replacing of the timing chain will not resolve the problem , If the timing chain stretch out you will have low compression reporting on certain cylinders and a running too rich on both banks, P1389 is 2,86 variance, this can be crankposition sensor out of position which is located on the transmission bell housing, If the crankposition was out of alignment this would be the flywheel or flexplate out of position. Also this codes indicates a misfire with more than one cylinder, this can be from sparkplug wire shorting to ground, When P1389 misfire occurs it is in gear at above 35 mph. Not at idle.
