I have code p0457 on my 2009 for escape..

Question

I got it checked out and they said it was the software. Now the check engine light and the fuel tank light are on again. The dealership said it needs a smoke machine to test it but here in Germany they said it was illegal. Any advice or solutions are welcome.

P0457 Evaporative system leak detected (fuel cap loose or off)

There are two reason for this you truly do have a evap leak. The second is the instrument panel with the fuel cap indicator always on or even never on.If it is the instrument panel it should be accomapnied by a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) U0100 .
