Infiniti P1217 code - what is it?  This is not shown in the database but comes up on the CANODB2 reader.  2008 Infiniti G37.  The car seemed to go into limp mode and allowed be to go home at very low speeds (and low RPM).  When I gave it more gas it would stumble and hesitate (jerking).

I found one database that says it is "Engine Overheating".  Resetting it caused the vehicle to fail to start until after the battery was on a charger.

Final update - after researching, others said to check the coolant level.  Indeed it was low and I added about 3 litres.  The problem appears to be solved for now at least for a 10 minute drive.  Don't know where the coolant went but it has been very hot outside (> 30 C)

The code is trigger when the ECM detects that the engine is overheating or the temperature is out of specification.

If there are not drive ability problems, the engine is not overheating and no cooling system components are malfunction, then the problem is more than likely the Engine Control Module (ECM) program. You have to have the dealer reprogram the ECM.
