You may have a defective sensor, cam sensor can fail intermittently, You mainly need a labsope for the installation regardless if it is aftermarket or OEM. There are several ways cam sensor fails when the voltage stays high or can not be pulled to ground, If you do not have the tool for installation try this, but you need a voltmeter atleast.Perform number 1 cylinder compression. Bring the timing to its 0 mark,,now you rotate the crankshaft 26 degrees to ATDC (after top dead center) Obviously there is no 26 degree ATDC mark, so measure 1,25 inches from TDC mark or the 0 mark., with the CMP installed ,the CMP signal should switch from 0volts to battery voltage ,snug it down.Do all this with key on engine off.
