I have a 2002 isuzu rodeo 2wd 3.2L v6 automatic transmission
Yesterday morning, it was driving fine. Half way to work I started to hear some whining and the car seemed to have some trouble coming out of 1st.
At the end of the day while driving home, the whining sound was worse and the engine was revving up to 4-5K rpm before it would slip into gear. About 1 mile from home, I could not get the car to run about 20mph. I parked in front of the house, waited for my BF to get home to check it out. Once the car had cooled down it seemded to slip into gear better, but the longer it ran I had the same problem.
I brought the car to my mechanic and they said it threw back code P0742 ISUZU - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On, they would have to overhaul the trans and the cost would be $2472.00. Does this sounc correct?

P0742 Torque convertor clutch circuit stuck on.

The whinning noise that you are hearing and the revving up before it would slip in gear, This is what you call a transmission slip. This is a internal mechanical failure, your solution is rebuild or replace the transmission
