should i be able to pull a vacum on my fuel tank with a hand held from the canister purge line

i hooked a hand held vacum pump on the purge line to the tank should it hold a vacum

P1443 Evaporative emission (EVAP) purge flow system

The evaporative vent is a normally open valve, So if you hooked a vacuum pump on the purge line you will not be able hold a vacuum. unless you plugged the line at the vent valve. If you have P1443  test the purge valve,this is a normally closed valve,when power is applied to the purge valve it draws  a vauum from the intake to the canister.
