P0500 NISSAN -maxima has no vss in manual trans only factory cap, were should i look

my speedometer is not working in my 2000 maxima manual transmission. ive replaced the cluster and can not find a speed sensor, only the factory cap. nor can i find any connectors in that area. it has code p500. what feeds a signal to the ecm. what should i look for. totally frustrated with this issue. thanks spud

The speed sensor is on the front of the transmission. Here is an image:
