Looked it up and it doesn't come up in the codes list. Code read by Autozone.

A little background info. The day before the CEL came on, I disconnected and reconnected the four 30 amp fuses inside the car (thought the power windows weren't working).

Moments before the light came on, I exited the parkway after doing about 65mph. Smelled a burnt metal smell that I smelled only once before as I was buying the car (the dealer drove it into my neighborhood). Just got the car used and hadn't brought it up to that speed before. When I test drove it, there was no burnt smell. I checked under the hood and there was no smoking and the engine wasn't overheating.

Oh yeah, I switched out the gas cap with a locking gas cap (didn't realize that the gas cap can only be opened from the inside). I read in the 2002 manual that switching gas caps could cause the CEL light to come on.

After I switched the gas caps back, the mechanic says give the car 40 key cycles and the light should reset itself. What constitutes a mazda key cycle? Maybe I should just disconnect the battery, step on the brake and reconnect to "reset" the CEL?

By the way, the first time I went to Autozone, no code came up (even though the light is on). The rep. said it's possible. Went to another Autozone and another rep. said that's not possible - a code has to come up if the light is on.

Hope this is not TMI.

P1195  EGR boost sensor  open or short

You do have this code listed, When you code this, it can be the EGR boost sensor, the vacuum lines to the EGR boost sensor damage or plugged., There is also a TSB dealing with P1195, TSB bulletin number 0022/97 , its is about a misrouted or kinked vacuum lines to the EGR boost sensor

You are right.  Brought it to a mechanic and they came up with the same code.

I checked P1195 on this website and nothing came up when I searched it from the list of codes.

I appreciate your posting the info.  I thought I saw a kinked hose near the boost solenoid.  Thanks to you, I'll look again.
