P0442 TOYOTA -

Question

I have a 2004RAV4, 4X4 and my mechanic replaced the canister after P0442 showed up first. After several days later, the engine light came back on, and now he said it he would need a good day to pinpoint out what's wrong? Is it something that I have to keep replacing parts until the light does not come back on or why is it so difficult to tell exactly what's going on? Thanks.

The P0442 code is for small leak in the EVAP system and sometimes it's difficult to find those small leak or require more than one part, but that doesn't meant you have to keep changing parts. You mechanic should have found all the bad parts in the first trip. It's possible that your mechanic does not have the proper test equipment to properly diagnose the problem. You should considered taking you vehicle to the dealer.
