Odometer reads zero when driving and check engine light is on. I replaced speed sensor (on transmission) and reset the system with my OBD2 reader but still have the same code and speedometer doesn't work. I checked wires from transmission speed sensor to ECU and they are good. Could I be looking at an ECU issue? What else can I check?

The CEL illuminated when braking on snow at a slow speed. The vehicle has ABS, so I am wondering if one or any of the ABS speed sensors could be the blame, but then why did I get a vehicle speed sensor code instead of an ABS code?

Thanks for any help. I am trying to keep costs down by diagnosing myself and I already bought a new speed sensor where my old one probably works fine.

Vehicle: 2003 Toyota Sienna

P0500 Vehicle speed sensor, probable causes, Speed sensor itself, combination meter, the wires ,internal wire inside the speed sensor,ECM. The speed sensor signal goes the combination meter before it goes to the ECM.
