I have just replaced the timing belt as a diy project and now the idle is very rough and dies at times. Check engine light comes on and stayys on but when idling for more than 3 minutes it begins to flash. Now error code p0172 is present. So I need to know if this is caused by the timing being off or if this is another issue entirely. Thank you

Hi there,

It is possible the misfire is causing the rich fuel mixture code. Normally when the check engine light is flashing it's a problem with the ignition system. It is possible that if the timing belt is off, you do have a misfire. I would recheck the timing, especially if the problem didn't exist prior to replacing the belt. If the belt broke, prior to replacement, you may have belt valves causing the issue as well.
