C1296 - I get this code on a 2005 Pontiac Vibe 2.2L, and the airbag lite is on

The air bag light is on, I used a newer genesis scanner and got no srs codes, and the c 1296 code. I have found that this code could be master cyld circut open or shorted. Could this cause the airbag light to come on.??
