Code P1753 Honda Description

The torque converter clutch solenoid valve switches the hydraulic circuit to engage/disengage the torque converter clutch. When the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is turned ON, hydraulic pressure is applied to the torque converter clutch. When the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is turned OFF, hydraulic pressure to the torque converter clutch is interrupted.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the torque converter clutch solenoid valve. The driver circuit has a diagnostic function that detects and outputs the state of a short or open circuit, and sends a return signal to the PCM. If the return signal during the PCMÂ’s command is not appropriate, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

  • I had this code, p1753 when I bought the car, 2002 honda civic ex coupe 1.7, around a year ago. I ignored the slipping between second and third because of some front end work that loudly reported needing done. I have the common plug leak in the plug on the end of the head next to the egr. I unhooked the battery and unplugged the egr and attempted remove the two nuts and bolts holding it down but I didn't use an ratchrt elbow to access the front bolt. So it became lodged. Against my better judgement I removed the back one, of course not yet ready with my magnet I dropped it. So I searched with the magnent. Found it had an elbow for the ratchet but it too was too big. So I gave up repairing the leak and egr gasket till the right tools we're available and plugged everything back up and rebolted everything. Further inspections all concluded the same. Yet when I started the car it was stuck in 3rd gear with the D light flashing on the dash where it's normally just green when in drive or 3, aka 40-90+, and had no regular pick up from 3rd gear or D on the gear shift/ dash, yet was normally if not, to this day, operating in low gear and shifts quietly up through from 2 to 3 to D if I listen and act accordingly (no manual stick experience in 14 years) then operates soundly up and down from 35 to 80 at least but I normally only drive it at around 3000 rpm or 60-70 mph at the very most. I never let it idle I'm gear because it drops to what I assume is an unsafe level and then does sound distressed and will make cluncking sounds upon my manual shift. The code had changed to p0740 at the beginning of this state which is persistent yet although I changed the torque converter clutch solenoid a few days ago almost sure that p1753 changing to a p0740 would be because of a faulty wiring or b because of a bad magnetic body etc. Alas it merely gave me back p1753 and a new one.. ready... p0700.... the 02 downstream warning and evap warning both disappeared too. I cleaned all the dyelectrics I could find and have left in unplugged all night completely because I can't find the location. Of the tcm to unplug it's positive terminal to restart it in hopes of I dunno bypassing what I imagine is a miscommunication of sorts amongst my transmission solenoid systems and or the tcm. Is it possible I torched the tcm with the magnet? Have I offended the car Overlords perhaps? Is there an Obd code for having offended them?

    • Probably not, it is almost completely unlikely you torched the tcm with a magnet. Now, if you are unplugging tcm and pcm connectors with the battery connected and the key on, this provides a much more likely scenario for torching a tcm. You must always remember to turn the key off when disconnecting these connectors. When in doubt, disconnect the negative battery terminal.
