Code P01CF Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has the ability to learn injector timing performance. When the engine is at operating temperature, throttle closed and in deceleration fuel cut-off mode, the ECM will pulse each injector individually and measure the changes in rotational speed of the crankshaft using the input from the crankshaft position sensor. The ECM will run this diagnostic at one fuel rail pressure operating point for each injector. The ECM stores the injector timing value. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Fuel Injection Timing is out of range.

Frequently Asked Questions about P01CF Code

What does the OBD-II code P01CF mean?

1. P01CF indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected that the fuel injection timing for cylinder 3 is retarded beyond the specified range. 2.

What are the common symptoms of a P01CF code?

Symptoms may include rough idling, reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, misfires in cylinder 3, and the check engine light illuminating. 3.

What causes the P01CF code to appear?

Common causes include a malfunctioning fuel injector, issues with the camshaft or crankshaft position sensors, wiring problems, or a fault in the ECM. 4.

Can I drive with a P01CF code?

While it may be possible to drive with this code, it is not recommended, as it can lead to poor engine performance, increased emissions, and potential long-term damage to the engine. 5.

How is the P01CF code diagnosed?

A mechanic will use an OBD-II scanner to confirm the code, inspect the injector and its wiring for cylinder 3, check timing-related sensors, and verify proper fuel pressure and delivery. 6.

How do you fix a P01CF code?

Repairs may include replacing a faulty injector, repairing damaged wiring, replacing a malfunctioning camshaft or crankshaft position sensor, or reprogramming or replacing the ECM. 7.

Can a dirty fuel injector cause a P01CF code?

Yes, a clogged or dirty fuel injector on cylinder 3 can cause this code by disrupting proper fuel delivery and timing. 8.

How much does it cost to fix the P01CF code?

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause but typically range from $150 to $600, including parts and labor. 9.

What tools are needed to troubleshoot a P01CF code?

Diagnosing this code may require an OBD-II scanner, a multimeter, and potentially a fuel pressure gauge to check for injector and fuel system issues. 10.

Can a faulty ECM cause the P01CF code?

Yes, a malfunctioning ECM could improperly control injection timing, leading to this code, though this is less common than mechanical or sensor issues.
