General Explanation

The braking system in a modern car is a crucial safety feature designed to slow down or stop the vehicle when needed. It consists of several interconnected components that work together to ensure effective braking performance.

When you want to slow down or stop your car, you press the brake pedal. This action initiates a series of mechanical and hydraulic processes. The brake pedal is connected to a power brake booster, which amplifies the force you apply. This amplified force is then transmitted to the brake master cylinder, which converts it into hydraulic pressure.

The hydraulic pressure is sent through brake lines filled with brake fluid to each wheel of the vehicle. At each wheel, the pressure acts on components like brake calipers (in disc brake systems) or wheel cylinders (in drum brake systems). For disc brakes, the calipers squeeze the brake pads against the brake rotors, creating friction that slows down the vehicle. In drum brakes, the wheel cylinders push the brake shoes against the inside of the brake drum to achieve the same effect.
