Code P1102 Infiniti Description

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is placed in the stream of the intake air. It measures the intake flow rate by measuring a part of the entire intake flow. It consists of a hot film that is supplied with electric current from the Engine Control Module (ECM). The temperature of the hot film is controlled by the ECM by a certain amount. The heat generated by the hot film is reduced as the intake air flows around it. The more air, the greater the heat loss. Therefore, the ECM must supply more electric current to maintain the temperature of the hot film as air flow increases. The ECM detects the air flow by means of this current change. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects a lower than expected voltage from the MAF sensor.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1102 Infiniti Code

What does OBDII code P1102 mean for an Infiniti?

P1102 indicates that the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is not performing within the expected range, which can affect engine performance and fuel efficiency.

What are the common symptoms of code P1102 in an Infiniti?

Symptoms may include reduced engine power, poor fuel economy, rough idling, hesitation during acceleration, and the Check Engine Light turning on.

What causes the P1102 code in an Infiniti?

Common causes include a dirty or faulty MAF sensor, air intake leaks, a clogged air filter, damaged wiring or connections, or a malfunctioning Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Can a dirty air filter trigger the P1102 code?

Yes, a clogged or excessively dirty air filter can restrict airflow to the MAF sensor, causing it to operate outside its expected range and trigger the code.

How can I diagnose the P1102 code on my Infiniti?

Start by inspecting the MAF sensor and air intake system for dirt, damage, or leaks. Use an OBDII scanner to check live data from the MAF sensor and compare it to manufacturer specifications.

Can I fix the P1102 code myself?

You can attempt basic fixes, such as cleaning the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, replacing a dirty air filter, or checking for loose or damaged wiring. For more complex issues, professional diagnosis may be needed.

Is it safe to drive with the P1102 code active?

Driving with the P1102 code may be possible, but it can lead to reduced performance, decreased fuel efficiency, and potential long-term damage to the engine if not addressed.

How much does it cost to fix the P1102 code on an Infiniti?

Repair costs vary depending on the issue. Cleaning the MAF sensor or replacing the air filter may cost under $50, while MAF sensor replacement can range from $150 to $400, plus labor.

Can a vacuum leak cause the P1102 code?

Yes, a vacuum leak can disrupt the airflow readings of the MAF sensor, leading to inaccurate data and triggering the P1102 code.

How can I prevent the P1102 code from occurring?

Regular maintenance, such as cleaning or replacing the air filter, inspecting the air intake system, and ensuring the MAF sensor stays clean, can help prevent this code from appearing.
