Code P0883 Description

The Transmission Control Output circuit is used to supply power to the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly and to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when in normal operating mode. The purpose of the Transmission Output circuit is to allow the Transmission Control System to turn off the power to the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly in the event that the transmission should need to be placed into "limp-in" mode due to a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
After a PCM reset, (ignition switch turned to the run position, or after cranking the engine) the Transmission Control System verifies that the Transmission Output circuit is open by checking for voltage on the Transmission Output circuits before the Transmission Control System requests for the circuit to be powered up. If voltage is detected on the Transmission Output circuits before the request is sent, the DTC will set.
This DTC is set if the PCM senses greater than 3.0 volts on the Transmission Control Relay Output circuits prior to a request from the PCM to energize the Transmission Output circuits.

I have this code, 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7l and this is the only code I have active. It's intermittent, when it's active the trucks slams into reverse,and only had high gear. Had it to the dealer twice, but didn't show the code when I took it there. One transmission shop claims it was the TIPM. I changed that and it wasn't it. The dealer wants to just start changing parts to see if it will fix it and I'm not doing that. But there positive it's an electrical problem.

Unfortunately, if the problem is not consistent, anyone will have hard time diagnosing the problem. You could either wait until the problem gets more consistent or try different parts. BTW, the service manual does not recommend replace the TIPM for that problem. See "Possible Causes" above.
